GETTING
TO KNOW THE LIGHTSHEER DIODE LASER
PROCES...
- A state-of the art system that effectively removes unwanted hair
(large and
small) quickly and relatively painlessly.
- Uses a highly concentrated beam of light to permanently remove growth
stage hairs
from the base of the follicle.
- It is no more dangerous than sitting under fluorescent lights in an
office!
- Of the many types of lasers on the market today, LightSheer, works on
the color
spectrum that effectively removes hair growth.
- The light emitted by the LightSheer Laser is absorbed by the pigment
of the hair
as it travels to the base of the hair follicle. Therefore, to effectively and
permanently remove hair with the laser, the hair must be black or brown in color, and in
a growth stage.
- Hairs that are in a resting or fall-out stage (having detached from
the papilla
area), form an invisible dermal cord with no pigmentation. Therefore, the laser will
vaporize the hair as far into the follicle as there is pigmentation, significantly
impeding its ability to return as the vibrant hair it once was. Hairs in a resting or
fall-out stage however, must be retreated in 4-6 weeks after the first treatment, so they
can be "caught" in the growth stage
- Laser hair removal is ineffective on hairs that are blonde, gray,
white or red in
nature. There is no pigment in the hair shaft for the laser to follow.
- For permanent removal, most areas need to be retreated a number of
times in order
to .catch. the hair in its growth stage. As the area treated is reduced to "countable"
hairs, it may be more cost- effective to complete the process of permanent removal by use
of electrolysis. Each case is assessed on an individual basis.
- The LightSheer Laser has a special contact-cooling hand piece that
both protects
and cools the surrounding skin as the energy of the laser reaches the hair root.
- The length of treatment may be a few minutes or an hour or more,
depending on the
size of the area treated.
- Through the use of topical anesthetic cream, ("EMLA" -see
Electrolysis page for
more info-), the patient will experience no more than a mild tingling affect during
treatment.
- Post- treatment care includes use of ice and some Aloe Vera gel to
remove any
temporary heat sensation on the skin surface. The skin may remain slightly red for a few
hours, with results no worse than a light sunburn. A patient can easily return to normal
activities immediately after a treatment, but should avoid hot tubs for at least a few
days, tanning for at least a week.
- Please note that laser absolutely cannot be performed on tanned
areas. Because
the laser follows the pigment of both the hair and skin, treating someone with a tan
could result in loss of pigmentation on the skin surface.
- If tanning resumes following a laser treatment, re-treatment of the
area in 4-6
weeks must be re-assessed and possibly delayed if a tan remains.
- The cost for laser is by the area being treated. If you choose to
remove more
than one area at a time, there is a large reduction in the price of the second area.

GETTING
TO KNOW Bill ...
Bill has been an R.N. for 28 years. He is also a Registered Respiratory Therapist and
holds a B.A.
-
He has seven years of laser hair removal experience, and has studied laser ever
since it was announced as an up and coming thing years ago! He has trained on all of
these lasers at schools
around the United States.:
- LightSheer Diode Laser
- Palomar (the Epilaser)
- Coherent Lightsheer
- Cynosure (Apogee Laser)
- Candela (GentleLase)
- Altus (Cool Glide Laser).
- Bill comes directly to my office and works laser appointments with
my assistance.
Between his superior training in laser, (and mine in electrolysis), I feel we can offer
each patient the best of both worlds! Both methods can be used to their maximum success,
as they compliment each other. Choosing laser over electrolysis is wise if the skin is
fair and the hair is dark.this is the perfect scenario for successful treatments!
- He also travels to other locations around the Twin Cities, working
in various
salons and dermatology offices. He knows his stuff, and he uses what we consider to be
the superior laser on the market today!
- Finally, Bill offers a range of skin care treatments:
- Microdermabrasion
- Chemical peels
- Restylane and Botox treatments
- Cyro Therapy (freezing of skin lesions)
- Lamprob (removal of skin irregularities)
- A professional skin care system by Vivant (developed by Dr. James
Fulton of
Miami, Florida, who is the co-inventor of Retin-A).
